Pep Guardiola issues apology to Steven Gerrard after “stupid comments”

Pep Guardiola has issued an apology to Steven Gerrard for "stupid comments" that he made during a press conference. The Man City boss held a bizarre presser last week where he clearly felt that he was on the back foot and had to defend his club. City are currently under investigation for over 100 allegations regarding financial misgivings, and some are even suggesting that they should be stripped of past titles if found guilty. Guardiola sarcastically started listing things that happened in the past that now must be the fault his club, including Gerrard's slip against Chelsea which effectively lost Liverpool the league in 2014.

“I don’t know if we are responsible for Steven Gerrard slipping at Anfield. Was that our fault?,” said Guardiola.

However, after being hit with a backlash from the media and having time to reflect on what he has said, he retracts those comments and reveals that he apologised to the former Liverpool captain.

“I apologise to Steven Gerrard for my unnecessary and stupid comment,” said Guardiola, ahead of his side’s crunch Premier League meeting with Arsenal on Wednesday. “He knows how I admire him, his career and what he has done for this country that I am living and training in. “I truly believe my comments about defending my club but I didn’t represent my club well by putting his name in these stupid comments. “I apologised to him personally but I have to do it here as well.
