The part of Ada Hegerberg’s speech nobody will be talking about

Martin Solveig was in the headlines instead.

Norway's Ada Hegerberg became the first ever female Balon d'Or winner in Paris on Monday night but rather than the moment crowning her year of years in women's football, attention was instead drawn to a remark made by DJ Martin Solveig during the presentation. For some reason, Solveig was presenting the awards and his 'est-ce que tu sais twerker?' comment made the decision to grant him that responsibility even more baffling. She responded perfectly to the awkward situation with a swift no before walking off the stage to highlight just how inappropriate Solveig's input was. Sadly, however, the passionate speech she had just delivered was lost to the moment. Somewhere in between Luka Modric and Kylian Mbappe being honoured, the best footballer in the women's game took her place in the Pantheon of greats and she marked it with an offering that will inspire thousands of young women to play football and that represented those that do so well.

"It is a huge step for women's football and the work you have put down is such an important thing for women's football and together we will make a difference. "I would like to end this speech, with some words to young girls all over the world. Please believe in yourself," she said.
