One out-of-favour Irish midfielder guaranteed he’s part of Ireland’s Euro 2016 squad

This day next week we will know the make-up of Ireland's Euro 2016 squad. Ireland face Netherlands and Belarus next week as they wrap up their preparations, and several fringe players may be hoping to convince the management they are worthy of a seat on the plane. However, according to the Irish Daily Mail, it seems as one out-of-form midfielder has already been promised he will be part of the 23-man squad. The newspaper is reporting that Aiden McGeady has been told that he can brush up on his French for the next month as he will be named in the squad announced next Saturday. The Everton winger, who is currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, has failed to make an impression with his new club after a January switch to the Championship outfit. The former Celtic man did not feature in either of the Owls' play-off games this month, and is likely to be looking on as they bid for the Premier League next weekend at Wembley. All the form would suggest that McGeady should NOT be heading to France, but it is understood that Martin O'Neill is a fan of the Scot's versatility and he wants to reward players who helped Ireland qualify. McGeady began the campaign as a first-team starter for O'Neill, but fell out of favour as the campaign drew to a close. The 30-year-old's inclusion may be a shock to some Irish fans, who would have been almost certain that he would not be heading to the Euros next month due to his poor club form. All will be revealed next week.
