How well do you know Newcastle United players of the 1990s and 2000s? The two decades were a rollercoaster time for Magpies fans. The team achieved promotion to the Premier League and almost won the division in the 1995/96 season when Kevin Keegan's entertainers were pipped to the title by Manchester United. Newcastle broke the world transfer record (£15m) by signing Alan Shearer in 1996, they finished second again in the Premier League and played in the Champions League and FA Cup finals.
The Magpies' positive spell continued into the 2000s when under Bobby Robson they again competed in the European Cup. However, the club entered a gradual decline in the latter half of the decade and, in the 2008/09 season, Newcastle were relegated from the Premier League.
