New Liverpool signing will try to convince Kylian Mbappé to join the club

New Liverpool signing Fabinho has said that he will try and convince his former Monaco teammate Kylian Mbappé to join the club in the future.

Mbappé joined Ligue 1 champions PSG last summer on an initial season long loan deal, with the club to finalise a permanent deal this month, for a fee believed to be around €145 million plus €35 million in add-ons. The 19-year-old won the FIFA Young Player Award for his outstanding performances at the 2018 World Cup as France claimed their first World Cup win since 1998 with a 4-2 win over Croatia in the final in Moscow. Fabinho spent two seasons playing alongside Mbappé at Monaco and has said he will try to lure the prodigious forward to Anfield in the future.

“Kylian Mbappe sent me a text message congratulating me on going to Liverpool,” said Fabinho [via Liverpool Echo]. “I have not had the chance to congratulate him yet on what he did winning the World Cup. “What France did was fantastic. What Mbappe has done in two years of professional football is amazing. “He is a phenomenon and needs to be congratulated. As soon as I have the chance, I will."

It was then put to the Brazilian midfielder if there was a chance that Mbappe could join him at Liverpool one day.

"He has already said for the next season he will remain at PSG,” laughed Fabinho. “But I will try slowly to convince him to come to Liverpool!”

Liverpool bolstered their squad ahead of the new season with the signing of Alisson from Roma on Thursday for £67m (€75m), which is a world-record fee for a goalkeeper.

 The Brazil international undertook a medical and signed a six-year contract on Thursday to become the club’s fourth new face this summer after the additions of Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri.
