MLS rename MVP award which means Steven Gerrard could win Landon Donovan this year

That headline seems a little mental, granted, but dammit it's accurate!

Major League Soccer have announced that they have named their Most Valuable Player award after league legend Landon Donovan. The former U.S.A. international retired from all football in December but his name will forever be remembered in MLS with players from all clubs set to vie for the Landon Donovan MVP Award when the 2015 season gets underway. Donovan is widely regarded to be the greatest player ever to come out of the U.S.A. and has a whopping 144 goals, 136 assists and six MLS Cups to his name in his 14 seasons with the league. "I am incredibly honoured," Donovan said of the honour. "I will try to live my life in a way that is worthy of having a MVP award named after you." Departing Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard will likely be favorite for the award, which our own Robbie Keane currently holds, when he leaves Merseyside for L.A.
