Long-term Man United target Sergej Milinković-Savić is finally on the move, to Saudi Arabia

"We’re waiting for formal and official documents."

After being linked with a summer move to Manchester United for what seems like every summer for the past decade, Sergej Milinković-Savić is finally on the move. The Spanish-born Serbia international is heading to Saudi Arabia, though. The 28-year-old, who was reported to be on the brink of a €91m move to Jose Mourinho's United, in 2017, is leaving Lazio for pastures new. United were said to be in for Milinković-Savić again, the following summer, but Lazio jacked up the asking price to €100m to make up for revenue lost when they missed out on Champions League qualification, on the final day of the season. Baulking at the high fee, United instead payed Shaktar Donetsk €50m for Brazilian midfielder Fred. When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over from Mourinho, the Serbia international was linked with a possible move when Real Madrid were circling Paul Pogba, in the summer of 2019. The midfielder won the Coppa Italia with Lazio in 2019 and has two Supercoppa victories with I Biancocelesti. After eight years in Italy, though, he is packing his bags to try his luck in Saudi football.

Sergej Milinković-Savić off to Serbia

Lazio has confirmed that Sergej Milinković-Savić will be leaving the club. Lazio president Claudio Lotito spoke with a reporter from Tag 24, on Monday, and said:

"Milinković Savić has asked me to leave the club, he only wants to leave. Ask him if he’s going to Saudi." "Al Hilal?" he responded when asked if that was the Saudi club to sign his player. "We're waiting for formal and official documents. Deal is done when documents are signed. The proposal is below €50m."

"If he goes to Saudi Arabia, then motivation comes from the money, but you have to ask him... He has called me begging me to let him go," continued Lotito. The club has already signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Chelsea and Ruben Neves from Wolves, this summer.
