Poor old Michael Owen takes an awful battering at times.

Last night, the former Liverpool striker took to social media to congratulate 17-year-old Ben Woodburn for becoming the club's youngest ever goalscorer. Woodburn scored the Reds' second in a 2-0 EFL Cup win over Leeds United at Anfield. at 17 years and 45 days, he surpassed the goalscoring record that was previously held by Owen [17 years, 145 days]. Owen was quick to give the teenager credit for the feat: https://twitter.com/themichaelowen/status/803713548186746880 Unfortunately though, given Owen's time spent with Manchester United and Newcastle United, the response was less than favourable. In fact, it was downright nasty. https://twitter.com/ali_reza110/status/803715144425603077 The Manchester United stint was a common theme https://twitter.com/Lil_Magician10/status/803718075711451136 Toon fans will never forget him https://twitter.com/heilalausa/status/803715024329969664 Simply had enough https://twitter.com/Duncan_Ingram/status/803715529869578240 This lad felt Owen was trying to get some attention https://twitter.com/Seanjoekelly/status/803713681410445313 And this one didn't even make sense https://twitter.com/lil_Thapit/status/803714966490595328 Sometimes you just can't win.
