The 21-year-old has not played for Manchester United since the start of this year.
Mason Greenwood has been charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, the Crown Prosecution Service, in the United Kingdom, has confirmed.
Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault,
the BBC confirmed. He was 'also questioned about claims of making threats to kill'.
The United striker was suspended from playing and training with the club when the allegations came to light, in January.
Greenwood has one England cap and has scored 35 goals in 129 United appearances, since his club debut in March 2019.
Janet Potter, from Crown Prosecution Service North West stated:
"The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has a right to a fair trial.
"It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice those proceedings."
Man United released a statement, earlier this year, in which they stressed that they "do not condone violence of any kind" and that they will make no comment until the "facts have been established."
A few hours later, the club issued an update on the situation, saying: "
Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice."
Nike, who had sponsored Mason Greenwood,
have also commented on the matter, saying: "We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation." The company later dropped him as a client.
