Martin Skrtel is about to leave Liverpool

Martin Skrtel is on the verge of leaving Liverpool after eight years on Merseyside.

The 31-year-old central defender has played over 300 times for the club since joining from Zenit Saint-Petersburg in 2008, and has two years remaining on his contract, signed last summer. However, he has played just four times for the club in 2016. Skrtel is aware he does not feature in Jurgen Klopp's plans and is close to agreeing a deal with Fenerbahce, according to The Guardian. Fenerbahce, who finished second in the Super Lig last season, will pay €7m for the central defender and Skrtel rejected offers from Germany and China to join the Turkish club. The Slovakian will be the second central defender to depart Anfield in the close season, after Kolo Toure's contract expired. However, Joel Matip has agreed to join the club on a free transfer from Schalke.
