Martin O’Neill springs a defensive surprise with Ireland team selection for Bosnia clash

The 11 men to help get Ireland to France have been named. Martin O'Neill's side take on Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first leg of the Euro 2016 play-offs this evening and, with a number of injuries and suspensions, the team is definitely different to the last two games back in October. Jon Walters is suspended for the first leg, as too is John O'Shea. Shane Long misses out through injury. So does Paul McShane... It looks like the management are opting to play tight for the away clash and get the Bosnians back to Dublin on Monday unbloodied and ready to finish the job. With Shay Given injured and Rob Elliot nowhere to be found, Darren Randolph starts in goal. O'Neill opts for a back four of Seamus Coleman, Ciaran Clark, Richard Keogh and, rather surprisingly, Stephen Ward. James McCarthy and Glenn Whelan start in midfield, presumably with Robbie Brady on the left and Jeff Hendrick playing slightly to the right of the central midfield partnership. Daryl Murphy starts up front with Wes Hoolahan filling the gap between midfield and striker.
