Manchester United will offer goodwill gesture to Molde after Solskjaer appointment

Molde have been tremendously accommodating in recent months.

Manchester United will reportedly give Molde a gesture of goodwill after appointing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager on a permanent basis on Thursday morning. The compensation package owed to the Norwegian club remains unclear because while United initially paid £1.8. million in December to bring Solskjaer in on a temporary basis just weeks after he had agreed a new contract with Molde, there is some confusion about what the Red Devils owe now that it has been confirmed that Solskjaer will be staying at Old Trafford. It was reported in December that the clubs had pre-agreed a compensation package of £7.2 million if United ended up hanging on to Solskjaer but the former striker revealed earlier this month that he was unsure of his contract status. "I think the contract has expired and that now I only have contract with Manchester United," Solskjaer said on the Fotballklubben podcast. "There may have to be another contract for that [return to Molde]." Molde are expecting some kind of fee for Solskjaer, while it's understood that the three-time Eliteserien champions are set to name Erling Moe as their new permanent manager. The terms of United's goodwill offer have yet to be agreed although BBC reporter Simon Stone has suggested that it could involve a game between the teams. "From the first day I arrived, I felt at home at this special club," Solskjaer said. "It was an honour to be a Manchester United player, and then to start my coaching career here. The last few months have been a fantastic experience and I want to thank all of the coaches, players and staff for the work we've done so far. "This is the job that I always dreamed of doing and I'm beyond excited to have the chance to lead the club long-term and hopefully deliver the continued success that our amazing fans deserve." At the time of writing, there has been no confirmation on the long-term future of Solskjaer's backroom staff but ESPN report that Mike Phelan is expected to remain at the club.
