So David Moyes took the highest earners to seventh.
Financial figures released for the Premier League's 2013/14 season make for fascinating reading.
It turns out that United top the list when it comes to player wages but they're still streets ahead of their nearest spenders in terms of post tax profit.
The Old Trafford club are said to have spent nearly £216 million on player wages but still managed to turn over a £23.8m profit - presumably because they are, you know, Manchester United.
Chelsea and City meanwhile are their only competitors when it comes to the wage stakes but both clubs are in the red for their overall profit.
Southampton were last season's fourth lowest wage spenders and sit ahead of only Hull, Palace, Leicester and Burnley of this season's Premier League lineup. That's based on last year's spending as well - don't forget that Liverpool have since bought half of their team off them.
The Anfield men came in fifth in the player wage rankings in their runner-up campaign and turned over a modest profit but, presumably all that has since gone towards an offer for Mr Sterling.
