Manchester United squeeze in goalkeeping dig in latest spat with Real Madrid

The statements, claims and accusations keep coming.

Manchester United were never going to allow Real Madrid and Florentino Perez, their president, to run their mouth unopposed for too long. The war of words continues over the ill-fated David De Gea move from United to Real and, on Thursday, Perez landed some hefty blows. Speaking to a Spanish radio station, Perez accused United of transfer inexperience, claimed they sat on De Gea's transfer documents for eight hours and that they unsuccessfully tried to buy four Real players over the summer. As chief executive, Ed Woodward is the most public face of the United board. He opts not to do much talking, in front of cameras at least. We have no doubt, however, that Woodward had a hand in this club statement released to Associated Press.

'The facts speak for themselves. The FA are prepared to back our case that documents were in on time. 'Real seem intent to move the focus away from their own clumsiness this summer. 'We all like to blame others but if you let one slip through your fingers into the back of the net, then ultimately the culpability is yours.'
