Manchester City deny players were singing about Sean Cox or Hillsbrough

Manchester City have denied that their players were making reference to Liverpool fan Sean Cox or the Hillsborough victims when singing their own rendition of the Allez Allez Allez.

City defeated Brighton 4-1 on Sunday to defend their Premier League title, eclipsing Liverpool by a single point to win the league. Their players were filmed singing their own version of Liverpool's famed Allez Allez Allez chant after the victory. https://twitter.com/YourMCFC/status/1128273265603039232 A spokesperson commented on the accusations:

'The song in question, which has been a regular chant during the 2018-19 season, refers to the 2018 Uefa Champions League final in Kiev. "Any suggestion that the lyrics relate to Sean Cox or the Hillsborough tragedy is entirely without foundation."

Liverpool fan Sean Cox recently came out of a coma after he was attacked and beaten by Roma fans before last year's Champions League semi-final. A charity fundraiser was held in Dublin last month where a team of Liverpool and Ireland legends played each other at the Aviva Stadium to help raise funds for the Seán Cox Rehabilitation Trust.
