Manchester United have reportedly approached Xavi as pressure mounts on current manager Erik ten Hag, according to Mail Sport.
The report claims that intermediaries have reached out to the former Barcelona coach twice in recent months.
Omar Berrada, a senior club executive, is said to have led a four-man delegation to Barcelona last Thursday.
Club sources told Mail Sport that the meetings in the city were related to Jim Ratcliffe’s Britannia sailing team, which Ineos own.
Yet, speculation has grown that Xavi could be lined up as a potential replacement for Ten Hag if his position becomes untenable.
Xavi was Barcelona's manager from November 2021 until the end of last season.
He won La Liga in 2023 as the club's head coach and had an impressive 62 per cent win ratio.
Yet, Xavi was sacked and replaced by former Bayern Munich and Germany coach Hansi Flick.
Despite the rumours, United sources have reiterated that Ten Hag’s job is safe for now, as the club prepares for their upcoming Europa League clash against Fenerbahce.
Manchester United have had a difficult start to the season, but they hope their 2-1 comeback win over Brentford last Saturday could mark a turning point.
