Man United now in an injury crisis as more stars ruled out for “extended period”

Man United are now in a injury crisis, as more of their players will be facing lengthy spells on the sidelines and are unavailable for selection. One of Erik ten Hag's key signings last seas on Lisandro Martinez, as the Argentina defender brought some much needed stability to the back line. The club's form suffered when he missed two months with a metatarsal injury at the end of last season, and it looks like he will be stuck on the physio table once again.

A club statement read: "Lisandro Martinez will be out of action for an extended period due to an aggravation of the foot injury he suffered in April.

"The Argentinian defender experienced the setback in our Premier League game against Arsenal earlier this month. Martinez bravely continued playing for the following two games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Bayern Munich.

"But it has now been determined that he needs a period on the sidelines for recovery and rehabilitation. Assessment is ongoing to determine next steps.

"Everyone at Manchester United sends Lisandro our best wishes and looks forward to him coming back as soon as possible."

Sergio Reguilon will also miss Saturday's game at home to Crystal Palace, joining fellow defenders, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the sidelines.

This means that the Red Devils only have one fit full back available for selection, and there is a long run of games coming up. Speaking at a press conference today, ten Hag blames the hectic calendar for his team's increasing injury list.

“Every time the schedule is expanding, the load on the players is too much, it’s such a great overload. Many colleagues of mine have pointed to that and I have pointed to that as well. But it keeps going.

“We keep expanding the schedule. Anywhere, it won’t stop. Players can’t deal anymore with this overload and I think that’s what you say in this squad at the moment.” Brazilian Antony has returned to training and is available for selection following his alleged domestic abuse investigation, while Jadon Sancho remains exiled from the first team after his dispute with the manager.
