Manchester United vying for Edinson Cavani and Luka Jović

Manchester United are in talks with Edinson Cavani and speaking to Real Madrid about a possible loan move for Luka Jović, according to transfer insider Gianluca Di Marzio. Cavani is a free agent, having left Paris Saint-Germain after seven years as the club's all time leading goalscorer this summer. His departure meant he missed out on PSG's run to the Champions League final, and he has been without a club since despite links with Leeds United and Benfica. United are now reportedly in talks with the Uruguayan as they look to bring in an orthodox number 9 to give their attack more balance and take some of the goalscoring burden away from Anthony Martial. He'd also be an upgrade on Odion Ighalo, who has done well in cup games but has yet to score a Premier League goal for the club. Jović, meanwhile, has not enjoyed anything resembling form since joining Real Madrid from Benfica after a prolific loan spell at Eintracht Frankfurt. In the limited chances he was afforded by Zinedine Zidane last season, he scored two goals in 27 appearances across all competitions, most of them off the bench - a stark contrast to the 27 goals in 48 games he bagged in the Bundesliga alongside Sebastian Haller. There is evidently a player in there somewhere, but Real Madrid was perhaps not the right place for him. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a good record of improving individual players at United, even if his tactics leave a lot to be desired, so a loan move for Jović could make sense for all parties involved. But if, like me, you've always had a soft spot for Cavani and wanted him to prove the doubters wrong in England, you'll want the handsome 33-year-old to don the red shirt and start banging in the goals.
