‘They are pigs’ – Malmo players lash into Celtic after Champions League clash

Malmo lost the battle at Celtic Park last night but they are determined to win the war. The Swedish side were 3-1 down to Celtic in their Champions League playoff - Leigh Griffiths with a double - but pulled back a late goal to leave the contest finely poised. The match was a feisty affair, with tempers often fraying over the course of 95 minutes. Post-match, Malmo goalkeeper Johan Wiland ripped into the Scottish champions. In an interview with Swedish newspaper Kvällsposten, Wiland said, 'They are pigs, all of them, that’s the way it is. 'You just have to try to stay cool and do what we have to do on the pitch. Leigh Griffiths, well, I don’t know what to say, he behaved like a child, tugging shirts all the time.' Defender Rasmus Bengtsson plunged into the debate. He told Sportbladet, 'There were some players who talked a lot. You probably know who I mean. They have a captain [Scott Brown] and a few others who like to talk. 'But that’s the way it is at this level. One player who came on [Nadir Ciftci] was not particularly nice. The first thing he wanted to do when he came on was to talk. He had more focus on that than his performance.' One Malmo player who refused to get drawn into the name-calling was Jo Inge Berget, who played eight games for Celtic on a loan deal last season.
