United could be looking for another boss in two years' time
He never seems to stay too long in one place but it seems Manchester United might be the final stop in Louis van Gaal's glittering managerial career.
The Dutchman signed a three-year contract at Old Trafford last summer, and the 63-year-old has admitted that pressures from home could be the factor that finally brings about his retirement.
"I promised that to my wife. We have not many years together any more. That is the reason," Van Gaal said. "I have done everything in my career as a manager."
Adding that his wife, Truus, "is very mad", Van Gaal said he had already extended his career well past his agreed departure date.
"I have to admit I have said to her, when I met her and our relationship seemed to be very good, that at 55 years I shall quit. I am still working and next week I am 64."
Of course, United supporters will be familiar with this situation, with Alex Ferguson's initial plan to retire in 2002 was shelved when his wife, Cathy, told him she didn't want him hanging about the house too much.
