Louis van Gaal reveals the formation he intends to use for the 2015/16 season

Louis van Gaal's 3-5-2 is a thing of the past.

Much was made last summer of the Dutchman's tendency to utilise three central defenders with wing backs playing more advanced roles. While Van Gaal chopped and changed that formation throughout the season, the United boss has revealed that he intends to employ a 4-3-3 system for the coming season. United have appeared in a 4-2-3-1 formation throughout their pre-season tour with Memphis Depay playing centrally, behind Wayne Rooney but Van Gaal confirmed that Depay will be used as part of a midfield three once the season gets underway. "That the midfielder is [sometimes] in front of the striker is not bad because I think you do need variation in your attack," Van Gaal said after the Red Devils final tour match against PSG. "I like that and I ask for that, especially from Memphis. It can also be Carrick or Schweinsteiger or Schneiderlin once in a while but mostly Memphis. It depends on our opponents." H/t to ManUtd.com
