Louis van Gaal faces player revolt after humiliation of Marcus Rashford

Louis van Gaal did once have the respect of his players, we think. However, after yet another disappointing campaign, it appears that his charges have finally had enough and are openly rebelling. Manchester United lost 3-0 to Tottenham on Sunday afternoon, on a day when van Gaal not only managed to baffle the fans, but his own players. The Dutchman played Ashley Young up front for large spells, while Anthony Martial was forced out wide. And according to reports this morning, van Gaal turned on several of his players afterwards in the dressing room, including Marcus Rashford. The Sun is reporting that van Gaal blew up at the 18-year-old, criticising him for playing out wide and not running behind Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. Rashford was hauled off at half-time, and Young promoted to lead the line, a move that seemed doubly strange when Martial, a natural striker, was still forced to play behind Young. Van Gaal is also understood to have lashed Marcos Rojo for his poor defending against Alderweireld for his headed goal, while Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian were also on the end of a tongue lashing. Van Gaal's future is still uncertain at Old Trafford, and after these latest rumours of unrest, it surely spells the end of his time in the Premier League. Players are understood to be dismayed at his attempts to blame players for his failures and are now convinced that he will not be manager next season, with the harsh criticism of the 18-year-old striker the final straw.
