Loan deal for Liverpool youngster in jeopardy over contract clause

Cameron Brannagan's proposed move to Wigan Athletic on-loan is in jeopardy.

The Liverpool midfielder, who made his debut last season, is wanted by the Championship club and has seen a £1m bid for him rejected. Jurgen Klopp sees Brannagan as part of his long-term plans, and the club want him to play first-team football during the upcoming season. According to The Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are so keen that their players feature regularly while on-loan, they have insisted on a "75 per cent" rule. The club's stance is reportedly a sticking point in the deal for the 20-year-old, who featured nine times in total for Klopp's side last season. Football League rules stipulate that parent clubs cannot demand loan players start games. However, Liverpool have included financial penalties in their loan deals, punishing clubs if they fail to meet the terms. Wigan reportedly cannot guarantee that Brannagan will play 75 percent of their games next season, and are thought to be stalling on the deal. Liverpool have already loaned out Danny Ward and Adam Bogdan to Huddersfield and Wigan respectively, where both are expected to be first-choice goalkeepers next season.
