Liverpool fans are beginning to sweat as the math doesn't quite add up in terms of transfers coming in, compared to those leaving the club this summer.
There was always going to be something of an overhaul in this window for Liverpool with the likes of Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita all destined to leave.
However, the departure of their captain Jordan Henderson and midfield anchor Fabinho was certainly not in the plan this summer, leaving two massive gaps in the middle of the park for Jurgen Klopp.
Fábio Carvalho was brought in last season in the hope of making a real impact from the bench and growing into a starter this year, but it hasn't quite worked out for him and he has been loaned to RB Leipzig.
The good news is Liverpool have signed 22-year-old Dominik Szoboszlai, and World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister to bolster their midfield, but that was done in the pretence that Henderson and Fabinho were staying.
Last season the Reds struggled desperately with injuries, particularly in midfield, and couldn't get a string of games out of them, but now they have even less this time around.
Ultimately, it comes down to the simple equation, that Liverpool have sold seven players, but only bought 2, meaning they are five men down as the new campaign is about to kick off.
It isn't all bad news as the Anfield faithful were without Luis Diaz for the majority of the previous year, but he is back in the team and flying fit, while the likes of Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo have all bagged valuable Premier League experience and will know what to expect this time around.

Of course the transfer window isn't closed just yet, but with Liverpool's transfer policy has never been to buy at the last minute, and the one time they did splurge for a late addition, was Arthur Melo and that turned out to be a disaster.
Only time will tell, but Chelsea are waiting in the wings, and Liverpool don't look ready.
