The Scottish international spent 13 years at Anfield and scored 118 goals in 355 games. Following the resignation of manager Joe Fagan after the Heysel Stadium disaster where 39 people died after fans were pressed against a collapsing wall, Dalglish took over as the club's player-manager and led the Reds to their first league and cup double in his first season in charge.
The Glaswegian also payed an influential role in the mourning of the Hillsborough disaster where he attended many of the funerals of the 96 victims who died from the tragic terrace collapsing at Hillsborough football stadium in Sheffield.
Dalglish won a further two league titles with Liverpool before joining Blackburn Rovers where he guided the Riversiders to their only Premier League title in 1995.
