Liverpool eyeing up Crystal Palace midfielder after missing out on Caicedo and Lavia

Having missed out on Moisés Caicedo and Roméo Lavia in frustrating circumstances to Chelsea, Liverpool are hoping to bounce back in this transfer window. Twice they looked onto something last week, with Caicedo and Lavia heavily linked in their direction, only for Chelsea to swoop in at the last second. Now Liverpool's hunt for a holding midfielder goes on. And so, with less than a month to go in the transfer window, their search has taken them to Crystal Palace star Cheick Doucoure, according to a report by Miguel Delaney in the Independent. The Malian international signed for the London club from Lens two years ago and has been very impressive, winning the club's player of the year award in his first season. At 23, and renowned as a specialist defensive pivot, Doucoure fits the mould of the exact type of player Liverpool are looking for right now. The club have already signed midfielders Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai this summer, from Brighton and Red Bull Leipzig respectively, but it remains an area they are anxious to strengthen. Having sold on Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Fabinho and Naby Keita, Fabio Carvalho and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain all this summer, Liverpool are light in the middle and would be up against it were one of their new signings to pick up an injury. Doucoure, it is said, would cost in the region of 50 million with the player apparently open to the move. He played the full 90 minutes in Palace's 1-0 win over Sheffield United at the weekend.
