Liverpool have decided to cancel a preseason friendly with Borussia Monchengladbach after accusing the German side of making an illegal approach for Rhian Brewster.
The Reds were scheduled to host Monchengladbach on August 7, just days before the opening weekend of the 2018/19 Premier League season, but the game has been called off after a dispute between the sides.
Liverpool have claimed that the Bundesliga club approached Brewster in an attempt to sign him without asking for permission first.
Brewster, who turned 18 last month, has become the subject of interest for several sides and Liverpool are now considering bringing the matter to Fifa as they believe Monchengladbach acted inappropriately by allegedly opening negotiations with the youngster.
The bad blood between the clubs has now grown so intense that Liverpool decided to withdraw their preseason invitation to Monchengladbach, according to a report in the Telegraph.
Brewster has thus far rejected his current club's attempts to sign him to a professional contract, which sparked the interest of multiple clubs around Europe.
It remains to be seen whether the Reds will look for another opponent for the August 7 game or if they'll just have some extra rest before their first league fixture of the new campaign.
