UPDATE: Ritchie De Laet has helped Middlesbrough to promotion but he has missed out on a Championship winners' medal. Burnley are the champions.
Ritchie De Laet could be the answer to a quiz question in years to come. The Leicester City defender, currently on-loan with Championship high-flyers Middlesbrough, could become a double league champion in the one season. The Foxes sealed an incredible Premier League title triumph on Monday after Tottenham failed to beat Chelsea. Meanwhile Middlesbrough are two points behind Championship leaders Burnley going into the final day's play. Should both sides win their respective leagues, De Laet will become (we're pretty certain) the first player in English football history to receive a league winners medal for both divisions in the one season.
A player needs to make a minimum five appearances for a title winning team to be eligible for a medal. The 27 year old defender featured 12 times for Claudio Ranieri's side in the league before joining Boro in January, and has since made 10 Championship appearances.
The Foxes have done their part and and De Laet could become the holder of one of the most unique records in football.
