England have announced Lee Carsely as the new interim head coach of the England national team.
The former Everton midfielder has been promoted from his role as England Under-21s coach to interim head coach of the senior England squad.
Carsley was heavily linked with the Republic of Ireland job and was reportedly offered the position.
However, the former Ireland midfielder, who won 40 caps for the Boys in Green, opted to remain with the Football Association.
Carsley's first match as interim England boss will be against Ireland at the Aviva Stadium in September.
The 50-year-old follows the same progression as his predecessor, Gareth Southgate, who also jumped from the Under-21s to the first team.
Carsley guided England to the Under-21 European Championships in 2023.
The FA expect that Carsley will remain in the position throughout October while the search for a new permanent head coach continues.
