Jurgen Klopp reflects on Liverpool’s surprise defeat to Nottingham Forest

"The goal we conceded was a big mistake from us."

Jurgen Klopp has had his say on Liverpool's surprise defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. Forest started the day bottom of the table, but Steve Cooper's side recorded a famous win at the City Ground thanks to a second-half goal from Taiwo Awoniyi.

Liverpool almost equalised in the final minute, but Virgil van Dijk's header was saved on the goal line by Dean Henderson. Forest hung on to record their first win over Liverpool since 1996. For the Reds, however, it was another difficult day. Klopp's side came into the game after registering back-to-back victories over Manchester City and West Ham United respectively. Klopp on why Liverpool lost to Nottingham Forest.

Speaking after the game, Klopp said that his side squandered the chance to win and that they allowed the newly-promoted side too many goal-scoring opportunities. "The performance I can kind of explain, the result not," the German coach told BT Sport. "I never saw a game where one team has… I’m not sure, four or five no-brainers from a set piece. We have to finish them off. We should have put the game to bed. The goal we conceded was a big mistake from us. "All of the chances they had we gave them because too often we played the wrong pass." "We had to play three games in six days with a really limited squad," the Liverpool boss said. "That’s just how it is. Result-wise, we should have shown consistency today with better finishing... Our next game is Wednesday so it’s like a holiday. I hope a few players will be back." Klopp also spoke about Liverpool's opponents. "Forest showed fight. It’s the Premier League, they are all good and they all fight. But giving a team six clear-cut chances from set pieces, I’m not sure I should be praising Forest, to be honest.
