Former Germany player Jurgen Klinsmann has been given the boot by the United States, five years on from taking the job as their coach.

Klinsmann, who also managed the German team in the 2006 World Cup, guided the US to the knockout stages of the 2014 competition too, a year after leading them to  victory in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. "But the form and growth of the team up to this point left us convinced that we need to go in a different direction."
