Jose Mourinho ties up two of Manchester United’s brightest young talents

Debunking the 'youth' myth one long-term signing at a time.

Manchester United have announced new deals for Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson. The 18-year-old striker and 19-year-old defender amount to the first players to sign contract extensions under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho. https://twitter.com/SportsJOEdotie/status/736838260257923072 Both players have signed with the club until June 2020, and have received significant pay bumps [Rashford is reportedly set to earn £25,000-a-week]. Rashford, who is currently with the England squad ahead of Euro 2016, scored eight goals goals in his breakthrough season with United. The youngster also found the net on his England debut against Australia on Friday. He commented:

"I have always been a Manchester United fan, so to be playing in the first team really is a dream come true. I am grateful for having the chance to prove myself. To be able to play football at the biggest club in the world means everything to me and my family."

Borthwick-Jackson made his United senior debut against West Bromwich Albion last November, and made 14 appearances in 2015/16. He missed out on the end of the season with injury, but will be pressing for a full-back slot next season. The defender said:

"I have grown up at United and have enjoyed every minute of being here... I will continue to work hard and take advice from the manager and his coaching team to improve with every training session."

Mourinho may look to tie up other young talents, such as Timothy Fosu Mensah and Axel Tuanzebe, to new and improved deals in the coming weeks.
