Jose Mourinho has suggested he still could win the Premier League with Manchester United if Manchester City are punished.
Mourinho's Fenerbahce side take on the Red Devils in the Europa League on Thursday. The Special One famously managed at Old Trafford from 2016 to 2018, a period in which he won the Europa League and League Cup.
Speaking before the game in Istanbul, Mourinho was asked about the state of Manchester United and whether he believed they had changed since he left the club.
Responding, the Portuguese coach said he "didn't waste a minute" thinking about this, but that he "wishes the best" to the club and its fans, and harbours no hard feeling towards United.
He went on to say that he hopes the hierarchy keep faith in Erik Ten Hag so that they achieve "stability."
Reflecting on his own time at the club, he continued: "That was a different situation to me, because as you know we won the Europa League, we finished second in the Premier League
“I think we still have a chance to win that league [2017/18 season] because maybe they punish Manchester City with points, and maybe we win that league.
"In that case, I hope they give me my medal and pay me the bonus!”.
It seems Mourinho was alluding to the possibility of Manchester City being stripped of titles they won in recent years if they are found guilty in its lengthy legal battle with the Premier League.
The club is accused of 115 breaches of the competition's financial and administrative rules, and the hearing into their case finally got underway last month.
United finished second behind City in the 2017-18 Premier League season, 19 points behind Pep Guardiola's side.
Fenerbahce take on United in Istanbul on Thursday evening (October 23). After two games, United are yet to win in the competition, whilst Fenerbahce have a win and a draw.
