Mourinho takes over from Louis van Gaal, who was sacked two days after securing the FA Cup for the Red Devils, and the Portuguese will be eager to deliver United's first Premier League trophy since Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
"To become Manchester United manager is a special honour in the game," Mourinho said after confirmation on Friday morning. "It is a club known and admired throughout the world. There is a mystique and a romance about it which no other club can match.
