Nottingham Forest are hoping to land the signature of Ireland defender John Egan.
Egan, who is out of contract with Sheffield United, spent most of last season sidelined with injury as the Blades were relegated to the Championship.
The Corkman has continued his recovery at the club and it is understood that they are likely to offer him a new deal.
But with interest also coming his direction from elsewhere, the ball is very much in Egan's court.
One club said to be keen on signing Egan is Nottingham Forest.
Forest avoided relegation from England's top tier last season, finishing in 17th place, ahead of Luton Town, Burnley and the aforementioned Sheffield United.
Now they are looking for defensive reinforcements to ensure they can survive more comfortably next season.
Egan's international teammate and fellow defender Andrew Omobamidele already plays at the City Ground but the experience of Egan would be no bad thing for a side destined for a relegation scrap.
Caoimhin Kelleher has also been linked with a move to Forest in recent weeks, but the chances of that happening could be affected by Liverpool's sizable price tag.
Some sources suggest Liverpool value Kelleher at £40 million.
While there is no doubt Kelleher would be a good addition for Nuno's men, Forest would be hard-pressed to make a better value signing than Egan on a free.
With years of experience with Gillingham, Brentford and Sheffield United, as well as 36 international caps, there's very little in the game he hasn't seen.
Let's see if they can get a deal done.
