Jesse Lingard owns costly Young Boys error in heartfelt post

'I’m upset for my part in the defeat'

Jesse Lingard has taken to social media to explain his 'hurt' following the costly mistake he made on Tuesday night. Manchester United were heading for a 1-1 draw against Young Boys before Lingard, having replaced Ronaldo earlier in the half, played a blind pass back towards David De Gea, not seeing Theoson Siebatcheu, who was presented with a one-on-one with the United goalkeeper. He slotted the ball home to give the Swiss side a famous victory, competing a miserable start to United's Champions League campaign. The England international was criticised for his 'big mistake' by former United defender Rio Ferdinand. On BT Sport, after the game, Ferdinand commented:

"This is Basaksehir all over again. It's a big mistake from Jesse. Wherever you go in Europe you've got to be on your game. It was a bad tackle from Aaron Wan-Bissaka and the game turned on its head totally."

Having not started for the Red Devils yet this season, it appears unlikely that Lingard will see himself in the starting XI for Sunday's clash, however, if he makes his way onto the pitch, he will be determined to make amends for his costly error.
