Jermain Defoe reckons Sunderland could have a future Galactico in their ranks

Duncan Watmore can be the next Gareth Bale.

Before you ask, he is a 21-year-old Sunderland attacker who has made six appearances for the Black Cats this season. It has been enough for Defoe to compare Watmore to his former Tottenham team-mate Bale. No pressure, Dunc.

"In a funny way he reminds me of Gareth. When he came on the scene at Tottenham, he used to just get the ball and glide," said Defoe, who scored the only goal in Monday's win over Crystal Palace. "He's such a nice boy, I don't think he's bothered about signing new contracts and stuff, all he wants to do is play football and do well for the club. "If he can go on to do what Gareth has done then he'll be fantastic. He's the future of this club."

Bale left Tottenham for Real Madrid in September 2013 at a cost of €100million. Watmore has scored two goals for Sunderland so far this season and Defoe seems convinced the England Under-21 is one to keep an eye on.
