Jason Knight addresses Premier League speculation ahead of transfer window

Jason Knight revealed he dreams of playing in the Premier League as the Republic of Ireland prepares to face Armenia in the opening game of the UEFA Nations League. The Derby County midfielder had been linked with a host of top-flight English sides, including Newcastle United, Leeds United and Everton, and he didn't hide his ambitions of playing in the Premier League.

Knight said he has always dreamed about playing football at the highest level. The 21-year-old, however, said he was happy with the number of games he has played for Derby despite the financial issues going on at Pride Park. The Rams were relegated to League One at the end of last season. “If that offer comes in, it's something you have always dreamt of, playing in the Premier League and at the highest level," Knight told reporters ahead of the UEFA Nations League games. “At the moment I’m still a Derby player. Everyone knows it’s been a tough year with things behind the scenes at Derby. "I’ve played a lot of games so I was happy with that aspect but what the future holds I don’t know. I’ll see what happens.”

Knight revealed his love for Derby as a city and highlighted his affiliation with the club, although, he is eager to add to his 11 caps for Stephen Kenny's side. The former Cabinteely midfielder is aware he must get his next move right if he is to progress in his career. “It’s a really competitive squad we’ve got now and you need to be playing football at the highest level you can. That’s for me and the manager to talk about but, for the moment, I’m still at Derby. I love the city and the club and I’ve been there a while," Knight said. “You need to look after yourself as well. It's a difficult situation but it's something I’ll think about. I have to see what's best for me, what's going to help develop me.” Knight travelled with the Republic of Ireland squad for the match against Armenia in their opening UEFA Nations League game on Saturday, with kick-off at 2:00 pm.
