Jamie Carragher angered by Manchester United fans’ criticism of Sergio Ramos

Not all United fans of course, but Carragher has just schooled Red Devils' supporters who took to social media to voice their opposition to the potential signing of Sergio Ramos. The Real Madrid defender has been heavily linked with move to Old Trafford in the past few days, possibly as part of the deal which takes David de Gea to the Spanish giants. Despite having a defence featuring Marcus Rojo and Phil Jones, some United fans weren't welcoming to the idea of a player in his prime who's won everything in the game joining the club. And Jamie Carragher finds this hard to believe. "I get a bit wound up by the criticism Ramos gets," Carragher told UK radio station talkSPORT. "This is a fella who has won everything, he plays for one of the best clubs in the world and one of the best international sides we’ve ever seen."“I think it’s disrespectful – he’s won nearly 130 caps for Spain! He’s not playing for Mickey Mouse teams". Carragher also said that Ramos is among a dying breed in football: a top class central defender. "If a team like Real Madrid could find a better defender, they would, but they don’t. Ramos plays every week, they win everything and people still chip away at him and criticise him." "Top-class centre-backs are a dying breed now, there’s very few now compared to years ago. If United don’t get Ramos, or don’t want to sign him, who else would they get?" "I’m not bothered about whether United sign him or not, or whether he’d be a good signing or not, but if he is not rated as one of the world’s best players, who is?" Does Carragher have a point?
