Leeds fans were in full voice in Dublin on Saturday as they sold out the Aviva Stadium for their 1-1 draw with AC Milan in pre-season.
There were over 51,000 inside the Aviva, the vast majority supporting Leeds, as they prepare to face Everton on August 18 in their first game back in the top flight.
Santiago Gimenez put AC Milan ahead in the first half, before Anton Stach equalised in the second period to give Daniel Farke’s side a well-earned draw with a week to go until the start of the season.
But the atmosphere wasn’t all positive, with Leeds midfielder Jack Harrison receiving a chorus of boos throughout from his own fans.
Harrison is accused of ‘jumping ship’ by Leeds fans when he left the club following their relegation from the Premier League 2023, just months after signing a five-year deal.
He spent two seasons on loan with Everton, but his future is now up in the air ahead of the transfer window deadline on September 1.
Harrison was booed by the crowd at the Aviva while he was warming up in the first half, when he eventually was subbed on in the second half, and every time he touched the ball.
There were some roars from the crowd to drown out the booing when he burst forward with the ball, and Harrison was seen clapping and receiving applause from the Leeds fans after full-time for what could be his last appearance for the club.
But fans on social media were unsure whether supporters should be booing their own players, regardless of what has happened before.
One said: “I hate hearing a Leeds United player getting booed by the fans. So Jack Harrison isn’t currently in the good books but booing a player in the Leeds United shirt makes my blood boil. He’s playing for us. End of.”
Another said: “You know what? Fair play Jack Harrison.”
And a third said: “I don’t care what you think of Harrison when he pulls that shirt on he’s Leeds and you should get behind him.”
