You would think that if a team is planning all year long to dump their manager at the end of the season, they might, you know, have a replacement in the pipeline. From January on it seemed certain that Sam Allardyce would be leaving West Ham and within minutes of the season finale he was told he was no longer needed at Upton Park.
Slaven Bilic was hotly tipped to join his former club as Sam's replacement but two weeks have passed since the Premier League ended and West Ham are still managerless. Harry Redknapp has taken advantage of the delay by advocating for two surprising choices to take on the job he once held.
Rio Ferdinand recently retired as a player and Harry thinks Rio's 'football brain' would be perfect for the vacancy. He also joked that he could join as the Director of Football.
“Rio Ferdinand’s doing his coaching badges and has got a great football brain. He always had good ideas and read the game well," Redknapp said to Kicca.com.
“I’d like to see him as manager of West Ham. I’d go with him as director of football – that would be a good partnership. I’d love to see him get the opportunity somewhere, he’s young and enthusiastic."
There have been enough former players fast-tracked into management that Ferdinand's appointment actually wouldn't be THAT surprising but if you are a West Ham fan you would have to be apprehensive. Luckily for Hammers supporters, Redknapp also offers a more sensible alternative to Rio.
Okay, it isn't that sensible.
“I’m a Di Canio fan. I’d like to see him go back to West Ham. I know everybody’s slaughtered him but he was fantastic at Swindon.”
Rio and Di Canio. That is quite a fall from grace after being linked with Jurgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti a few weeks ago.
It would be fun to see these knee-slides back in the league if nothing else.

Would West Ham fans like to see Ferdinand or Di Canio in charge? Or what about a Gerard Houllier/Roy Evans-esque dream duo?
