Fancy a great night out in aid of a great footballing cause?

The Greek island of Lesbos is currently home to thousands of refugees fleeing Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Eritrea - many of them are children. Children who love to play football. Football for Refugees is an NGO promoting health and social integration among the different nationalities of the Kará Tepé refugee camp through weekly football activity. Back in September they ran a hugely successful football festival for almost 150 children in the camp and they intend to stage their second from December 29th to January 8th for the children of both the Kará Tepé and Moria refugee camps. But they need your help. Football For Refugees aims to promote the health, happiness and social integration of refugee children through football. They presently fund weekly football activity for the refugee children of the Kará Tepé Refugee Camp in partnership with locally based NGOs, the Greek authorities and people of Lesbos. During November and December, 2016 more than 300 children benefited from the programme. Next Tuesday, December 20th, Football for Refugees are hosting a special fundraising gig in Dublin venue, Whelan’s, to raise funds for the upcoming festival. Four bands will perform on the night with raffle draws and merchandise for sale.  All proceeds raised will go directly to the running of the festival as well as ongoing weekly football activity. Not in Dublin or unable to attend next week? No worries. It is possible to make a donation online to help cover the cost of pitch rentals, bus hire, footballs, kit, equipment and insurance. As the volunteers all pay 100% of their own costs for flights, accommodation, expenses, etc, every penny raised goes towards helping the refugee children of Lesbos.
