Manchester City's quest to overturn a three-goal deficit in their Champions League quarter-final tie with Liverpool got off to a screamer as Gabriel Jesus scored after just two minutes.
The Brazilian striker swept home a fine finish after being teed up by Raheem Sterling.
Liverpool were incensed though, particularly Virgil van Dijk, who felt Sterling had pushed him in the build-up.
But Souness, living up to his reputation as a no-nonsense pundit, berated van Dijk for 'schoolboy defending.'

"That's a schoolboy error," Souness raged. "He's appealing for the foul before the push."
While some Liverpool fans raged at not being awarded the free-kick, others observed that van Dijk shouldn't have been that out of position in the first place.
It may well be immaterial though as Liverpool hit back in the second half through Mohamed Salah, who struck an equaliser to surely kill off City's hopes.
At the time of writing, City need to score another four goals to advance to the semi-final.
