How in God’s name Harry Arter did not get a straight red card today is beyond us

This was just plain nasty.

Irish fans everywhere, and supporters from just about every country but Wales, tore into Neil Taylor when his rash challenge broke Seamus Coleman's leg in two places. Most Welsh fans, in fairness, were horrified too. So we cannot shirk criticising Harry Arter for almost making smithereens of Joe Allen's standing leg. The Bournemouth midfielder went flying in with both feet off the ground after Stoke's Allen had taken a heavy touch and stretched to retain possession. The crunching tackle saw Allen left in a bundle and Arter surrounded by Stoke players. It looked for all the world that Arter would be given his marching orders after only 25 minutes but he had a yellow card reprieve.
