It's hard to tell whether this is good news or bad news for Liverpool's fans
Glen Johnson has been ruled out of action for a month and will miss Liverpool's busy Christmas period as Brendan Rodgers desperately tries to muster up a challenge for the top four.
The England defender hobbled out of the 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford last weekend and was replaced by Kolo Toure in Liverpool's back three.
It made no real difference as Rodgers' defenders continue to play like men who are meeting each other for the first time.
Johnson's contract is up at the end of the season. He currently earns in excess of €125,000 per-week and is unlikely to be offered a new deal on such favourable terms as the club attempt to reduce their wage bill, particularly for those the wrong side of 30.
Roma have been strongly liked with a move for Johnson and may even persuade him to sign a pre contract in January.
If Liverpool find some form during his absence it may well be that Johnson's chances to get back in the team are limited meaning his days at Anfield could well be coming to an end.
