German legend warns Bastian Schweinsteiger off moving to Manchester United

Bastian Schweinsteiger has proved this week he's an all-round good guy, paying tribute to a young Dubliner who tragically died in the Berkeley balcony collapse, but we wouldn't hold it against him if he had some choice words for Franz Beckenbauer. The Germany and Bayern Munich says his fellow Germany and Bayern Munich legend is too old to be thinking about moving to Manchester United. Schweinsteiger has been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford, and joining up with his old boss Louis van Gaal, however Beckenbauer has essentially told the 30 year old midfielder to get a grip, and forget such notions at his age. "Adapting to a different European league is difficult at his age," Beckenbauer told German publication Bild. "He has played with great force and put a lot of pressure on his body for many years. That saps energy. He could end his career in the USA instead." "If I was at Schweini's place, I would stay one or two years more at Bayern. Until then, he can still perform at the highest level." Interestingly, that's exactly what Beckenbauer done, moving to the New York Cosmos aged 32 from Bayern Munich. Does Beckenbauer have a point? Would Schweinsteiger be able to adapt to the exhaustive demands of the Premier League at this advanced stage of his career? Or would he represent a transfer coup for United? Either way, we can't imagine he'll be too pleased with Beckenbauer's comments.
