Gary Lineker has tipped former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard to succeed Gareth Southgate as the next England manager.
Making the suggestion before Southgate's resignation, Lineker spoke on his podcast The Rest is Football putting forward the idea.
Southgate announced his resignation less than 48 hours following the heartbreaking Euros final loss to Spain and a search for a replacement is reportedly well underway.
Lampard has been out of work since the 2022/23 season following a stint in which he took over the reigns at Chelsea on an interim basis.
Recently, Lampard was also linked to the managerial post at Burnley, which has since been taken by former Bournemouth boss Scott Parker.
However, after watching Lampard's tactical analysis at Euro 2024, Lineker made the bold suggestion he could be the next man for the England job:
"I think he’s been a bit unlucky in his managerial career in some ways. I think he gets it tactically.
"I think this will be Gareth Southgate’s last tournament, whatever happens. If he wins, I think he’ll absolutely bow out, and if he doesn’t then I think he’ll bow out. It’ll be his decision.
"But I wouldn’t disregard Lampard. I think he tactically gets it. I think the players will respect him immediately. I’m getting ahead of things here... but if you’re going to go English, you go… who else? Eddie Howe? Eddie Howe, possibly?"
