Gareth Bale addresses rumours linking him to Manchester United

Gareth Bale has distanced himself from a return to the Premier League with Manchester United.
Pressed by the Spanish newspaper on reports linking him to Jose Mourinho’s side, Bale said, “I signed a long contract in Madrid and I am happy in this club. I am sure this is going to be a great season. My plan is to score goals here.” The Welshman has netted 67 times in 150 appearances and has enjoyed a huge amount of success in terms of silverware in Madrid, with three Champions League titles to his name. However he has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford over the last two summers. Last season was a frustrating one for Bale, who started the season so brightly before an ankle injury led to him missing vast chunks of the campaign. The 28-year-old was a substitute for the Champions League final between Real and their city rivals Atletico Madrid. “Until January everything went very well for me,” claimed the former Tottenham winger. “It was bad luck, you cannot avoid these injuries in football, when you knock your ankle. Logically it was very hard, but the most important thing is that we won titles and very important ones.” Luka Modric also weighed in on his teammate’s future. “(Gareth) has had a very difficult year, with a lot of injuries, but he started the season very well and he was our best player,” said the Croatian midfielder. “For him it is important to be healthy and I hope we can see the best Gareth this year.”Explore more on these topics:
