Joe Mason could well earn his first senior Ireland call-up this year and nobody would begrudge him that as the 24-year-old is in the form of his young career. The Wolves striker, signed from Cardiff in January as a replacement for Bournemouth-bound Benik Afobe, has already scored twice for his new club with his first coming just three minutes into his debut. Mason, whose mother hails from Mayo, made it two in two for Kenny Jackett's side when he scored a consolation goal during Wolves' 2-1 defeat to Preston North End on Saturday. https://twitter.com/OfficialWolves/status/692802542611402753 And his tally for the season has left the Plymouth-born forward, who has made three appearances for Ireland at under-21 level, quietly hopeful of getting noticed by Martin O'Neill. “I’ve not been involved in the qualifiers or even preliminary squads," Mason told Neil O'Riordan of SunSport. “I don’t know if I’m in the manager’s thoughts but hopefully if I do well enough here, I will be. “I think coming to a club like Wolves can help in that regard because I will have a bigger profile if I do well here. It’s up to me to try to bang in some goals. “I’ve eight now and I’d like to hit double figures for the season. “Players I played with, Robbie Brady and Jeff Hendrick, have gone on to the senior squad. I’m delighted for them because they came through a tough qualifying group and I’ll definitely be watching. “I’m also hoping Alan Judge can make the squad, as I played with him at Plymouth. He’s the main man at Brentford — their team is built around him and rightly so.”
