We are sad to report that former Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote has passed away at only 30 years of age.
The Ivorian international collapsed during a training session in China, and later died.
His agent Emanuele Palladino confirmed the death of his client on Monday afternoon and asked that the family's privacy is respected at this time. Tiote joined Beijing Enterprises FC in February for an undisclosed fee.
Tiote made 139 appearances for Newcastle and scored one goal. He was extremely popular with both fellow players and fans, with whom he was something of a cult hero.
Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time.
